Art history: Margaret Bourke-White

Add caption Margaret Bourke-White, Russian Metro, Film photography/print, Moscow, 1941

Margaret Bourke-White was born in 1904. She was the first woman and person to have a photograph to grace LIFE magazine. Bourke is a big part of photo history especially since, photography has typically always been dominated by white men. Bourke was a photo documentarian who traveled the world. When Russia was becoming the soviet union, they closed the border to all the western journalists, but she somehow got there and was the only person to get there, photograph what was going on and then she got it published. This photograph is of an escalator in Russia during this time period.
